Hi Everyone! Just wanted to send a blurb about a conference I just attended
called Picky Eaters vs. Problem Feeders - Assessment and Treatment using the
Sequential, Oral, Sensory Approach to feeding. (SOS) It was excellent. It
has re-lite the fire to get back into working on feeding with Emily. For
some time we have just put this on the back burner. We have been very
discouraged and have gotten to the point "so what if she is tube fed forever"
That's not so bad.! We have even had therapists tell us this may be her
best and others say she has no connection between the brain and her stomach
to achieve anything more! Well, I'm ready to try something new.
It was presented by a group from the Colorado Pediatric Therapy and Feeding
Specialists in Denver, Colorado. They were wonderful. I thought of Jude and
how lucky she is to have these people so close. We don't have anything like
this in our area or anywhere nearby.
They have a whole approach that is very detailed but the basics is it is
sensory driven and Emily has lots of sensory issues so I think this is right
up her ally. I was also fortunate enough to have Emily's OT from school
attend and she is excited so she can thru in school.
These people sound like they have it all together... I inquired about a
consultation and they said they only see poeple from out of state once a
month, so that means only 12 families a year. I'm going to try it on my own
and see if we get some success.
