Melatonin can increase seizure activity in some that have seizures. It was
posted in Exceptional parent magazine by a neurologist. We tried Melatonin for
Nicholas and it did increase his seizures, so we had to stop it.
He sleeps when he wants to and now I just let him. After 13 years, I'm tired
of fighting it. He has fewer seizures if I let him sleep when he darn well
wants to. Keeping him up just does not work.
Also, during the Denver conference, the Lints had to discontinue the omega
supplement they were giving Zion due to the interaction with Keppra causing
increased seizure activity, Jaime told me. I had never heard that before, and
will ask Nick's neurologist about it since Nicholas is on Keppra too.
Nicholas was put on a blood pressure med last Thursday. We saw his
nephrologist and the protein in his urine was 4 times what it should be, so his
doctor suggested a blood pressure med. Now we have to watch his blood pressure
and his potassium levels due to this medication. The nephrologist said it
helps preserve the kidneys for a while.
