Hi Pam! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Daylin has had a very hard time
with his feedings along the way. He was a very gassy baby also! He still
has problems crying because of gas! We have tried several things. When he
was really little the doctors thought that he was not pooping enough! And so
everytime I would feed him they had me give him a little rectal stim after so
that he would go. I did see an improvement! Then as he got older we tried
the continuous feeds. This worked really well but we were never able to get
him up to 271 mls an hour ( I think that is what you said!) . For a long time
he was on 43 mls an hour around the clock. And then we tried splitting it up
so he could have breaks in between. We have him on 6 feeds a day set at 240
mls and one at night set at 50 mls. But he has terrible constipation now.
This causes lots of crying and gagging. So were are back to the rectal
stimulations! And some prune juice! I would play with
the
rate a little. If you have him hooked up at that rate for 8 hours he is
getting about 33 oz. of formula. That is kind of a lot I would think. Maybe
give him more in the day time and less at night. I give Daylin 8 oz at night.
Have you ever had any GI testing done on him? We just had one done on
Daylin for the second time and it showed that he could only hold about 4 oz in
his stomach at a time. It also showed that it takes about 15 minutes to empty
out of his stomach.
Good Luck! I hope this helps a little!
