Isn't it comforting to know our frustrations are the same!!!!! I am also in
regular contact with our Sweden friend (met via you - thanks!) and that is
how I learnt of conductive education - I have tracked down a place in Sydney
and they have sent me the forms, it's pricey but what price do you put on a
childs education?? I will be booking Matilda in and doing the 1 hours drive
once a week. I have started private physio with a lady who used to teach
conductive education and in only 2 lessons she has Matilda prop sitting by
herself for about 30 seconds - absolute miracle. Champion child! Matilda
will also roll over and over and now tries to pull herself up into a sitting
position - probably only makes it 1/4 way up then does a controlled flop.
It has really inspired me to get her into the "real" CE class. I have
considered sitting in on a couple of the classes at our special needs school
to see exactly what they do and have a go enrolling Matilda for a couple of
days a week, that with private physio and the CE class she should be great
guns, but the big goal is to get her to a level where she can attend our
"normal" local school when she turns 6 as they have a special needs class
but also mix with the "normal" children - she is so stimulated by other
children. She actually hated the noise of little children for the first
couple of years, she would scream until I took her from the noise. Now she
loves them - see what having an annoying little brother can do - makes you
tolerant!
I hope you find something for Kammie - I know of a mum who fought to get her
little boy into our local school and she just kept telling the Dept. of Ed
that they were discriminating and if you throw that word around often enough
in this country they back down and you get your way - young Alec's cognitive
and fine motor skills are a little better than Matilda's - I am realistic
enough to know that she needs work before I put up the same arguement. I
always go by the theory that everything happens for a reason and everything
will work out for the best in the end. So something good will come Kammies
way. I am also learning that it doesn't matter how much worrying I might
do, the situation will pan out the way it should - worry or no worry! That
little thought is allowing me a bit more sleep these days!!!!!!!
