Hi Michelle,
We are in limbo...should know soon whats happening...I left school a
few weeks early last June, I was very disappointed with the program
they had Natalia on.
She was doing nothing extra ordinary, nothing specific to her needs,
just in a MOVE program. The MOVE program is where they move the kids
all day from one center to the next, but there is no real one on one
except for the moving...For the entire year her computer time
consisted of pushing a button and they were thrilled she would wait
for the music till she pushed that one button again...Yes, at first
that was exciting that she would wait, but when she tackled that
concept, they should have added something else...To waste a whole
year with one button, Natalia can do more....
Of course she was suppose to have more, but it wasn't getting done.
Oral feeds, Visual stem with a light board etc... I left stating, it
was a waste of my time and Natalia's and we would not be coming back
to the same room this year as none of the kids seem to progress -- it
was a very low functioning class...
When I spoke with them later, they mentioned adjusting the
program...heck, they should have done what they were suppose to do
...they just had too many low level kids in that class...Anyhow, I
hear the teacher is gone...retired.
So I am sure the IEP will be interesting, as I would like her to go
to a local Blind childrens school for sensory stimulation etc...and
they are going to come back stating they have a new teacher and
program...
I'll let you know how it turns out...but that class is not for
us...They put the kids in the wheel chair and tie their feet down.
only out to walk....I want one on one in the walker, and stations,
and songs and art etc....Am I asking for too much...???
I don't really feel she is ready for a fully inclusive program...but
will go that route if they fight me....Then they will have to provide
me with one on one for the public school...I'm sure all will work
out...it always does...
When I left in June an IEP was scheduled when we would be on vacation
so I postponed it. It should be coming up very soon, although I
haven't gotten any date at present...They have been off for the
summer...I'll keep you posted..
