Well, I guess I'll hop onto the back to school report bandwagon.
We were fairly happy with the IEP the end of May. At this point a lot of
what I'd been fighting to get is a moot point as this is Alex's senior
(last) year of high school.
We did have some good discussions about courses and plans where everyone
agreed on the basic plan. Including Alex. Alex even said a few weeks ago
"I'm glad we changed the math class to the one I'm taking". It's a 'real
life' math skills class (check books, IRA's/mutual funds/investing,
mortgages, loans, credit cards etc).
School starts tomorrow. Alex has had his schedule for a week and all the
classes we wanted were given to him, including the TV production class (with
a new teacher though, not the one who's created/ran it for 15 yrs). It's a 2
class block class (worth 2 credits) and Alex may find some employment skills
there. He'd like to maybe get involved in sports via entertainment or
support jobs. Maybe even some school somewhere to further that education MAY
be possible for him to do. We'll have a better idea as the year goes on.
Alex again tried out for the varsity soccer team. When it matters to Alex
he's quite persistant! He of course didn't make the team. Again.
But was offered manager. Again.
Which he took. Again.
However.......coach said Alex would have a uniform and dress/sit the bench
during varsity games and that he would 'play' Alex. Couldn't say how often
or how long but Alex is THRILLED! So, games where they can't lose he will
prob put Alex in near the end.
Coach has already asked Alex to manage the girls soccer teams in the spring
as well.
We have received the senior picture proofs. Got a few good ones in there! I
placed the order yesterday. I bought some of the proof sheets and will try
to get them scanned so I can share. :0)
Molly is a freshman this year. My baby is in high school!!!!! Yikes!!!!!!!!
Got the classes she requested and is on the swim team (one team, no JV or
varsity distinction).
So, Alex is currently involved in high school boy's soccer and Molly in high
school girls swimming: both fall sports. TV Productions has a lot of
extra-curricular events they tape and play on the local cable access.
Until mid-Nov we're going to be a family on the RUN. lol
Alex seems quite happy right now. He loves being involved and is looking
foreword to some of his classes this year. I'm hoping this is a feeling he
has all school year long. :0)
Sorry to hear some are experiencing school angst! That is NEVER fun. May the
issues be solved quickly and great changes occur.
