>>my guilt
> thing makes me reveal i smoked like a fiend when i was pregnant with kam
I smoked with all mine :-(( None of my children had asthma or any bronchial
problems whatsoever.
And with Alex I did "drugs" too (see my previous post). Of course when he
was born and had problems the nurses on the ward where I had been an
inpatient for months took great delight in telling me that his problems were
all my fault - I should have been "stronger" and not been a "drug addict". i
think they were seriously disappointed when I had no withdrawals.
However I would have liked to see them if they had had to put up with what I
did during my pregnancy AND the contractions.
Of course I was guilt ridden and when I finally got Alex's diagnosis it was
one of the first questions I asked - was it due to the medications I took
during the pregnancy or the medications I was on when I fell pregnant. The
answer has always been a resounding no. In fact the medications that I was
on when I fell pregnant should have never allowed the placenta to attach and
if it did they should have made it separate at some stage resulting in a
miscarriage. (the medications were ergotamine and Deseril).
I was fearful the entire pregnancy because I was taking medications when I
fell (I wasnt expecting to fall pregnant and had in fact been told it was
impossible for me to fall pregnant). With my daughters I always came off my
regular medications when I was planning to fall pregant. The guilts will
always be there I suppose, but truly there is no evidence that they caused
Alex's problems. I am however very curious about a possible migraine link to
trisomy. Many mothers I have met over the years have also suffered migraines
during their T-18 pregnancy. Usually we migraine sufferers like being
pregnant because our migraines stop whilst we are carrying. While that was
the case with my daughters, it wasnt with Alex - in fact with Alex they
exacerbated beyond anything I had ever endured before or since. Do we
produce different hormones when carrying our triers?
