[tri-med] Re: any ideas

Hi Thea...
You may want to look into Trazodone and /or Melatonin. Devon does not have
t9...he has t13...but we finally cried uncle on the disordered sleep when he
was 7 yrs old...he's been on it ever since. He still goes to sleep between 6
and 7 PM...I give him his 50mg Trazodone and 3 mg Melatonin at around
8:45-9:15 when I change him one more time before bed and then I sleep walk
him into bed around 9:30 from the couch. He sleeps until until anywhere
between 4:30 -6 AM. Many kids with genetic disorders such as our kids have
don't make enough Melatonin on their own. Devon gets both and has done very
well with it. And as a side note...Devon doesn't react the same to
medications as others do either. Chlonidine knocked him stupid and knocked
him out at HALF of the smallest dose. Adderall made his "busy-ness" and
frustration/irritability MUCH worse. Presently we're on a Strattera
trial...and he's doing ok with it thus far. He started at small dose of 18mg
(for 2 weeks) and we titrated up to 36mg (for 2 weeks) and are now on
60mg...one week so far. The Strattera hasn't had any of the negative side
effects so far...probably because it's not a stimulant??? The behavior you
describe for your child is very familiar...Devon has been busy his whole
life...NEVER stops all day long. We, too, feel communication is a large part
of the problem for Devon.
Hope this helps...
