[tri-med] Re: any ideas

Thanks much for the info. We are indeed doing those same things (how
interesting) at home and school. Haiden has a tech talk (but he can't use it
for communicating just practice because he obsesses over it. We also have
Board Maker. Haiden does speak but mainly in 1-3 word sentences. He also
knows about 70 signs. He is very patient at making sure we understand his
wants and needs if he's in the mood. Other times, when he is in a hurry (which
is most of the time), he gets frustrated. Haiden is just soooo busy. We wish
he had an off switch or pause button so we could take a break once in a while.
It is also very difficult to get babysitters. My parents are very involved but
they aren't in good health. My husbands parents aren't really involved (and
they live literally 10 blocks away).
I too believe that a lot of Haidens frustrations are communication related.
I also think now that he is getting older, he is noticing he is different than
other kids and that makes him nervous. I cannot begin to tell you (I am sure
Cody is the same way) how smart Haiden is. He can figure anything out and is
very good a manipulation. Can I ask how you, as a parent, decrease your stress
level. I can say I am exhausted at the end of the day and wake up anxious. I
pray every day that I could share a little bit of Haidens energy. Even if just
an ounce!!
  Thanks for listening!

  Hi Thea
Our son Cody also has Trisomy 9p. He is also very busy, non-verbal and hardly
ever walks is always running. He uses signs, a communication book and board and
pecs. We started using pecs a lot more over the last few months he seems to
have calmed down alittle.
