[tri-med] Re: ? about altering neuron firing and serotonin

Thank you both Jocelyn and Mary :o)

The doctor DID use some initials when he referred to the drug for
anxiety...but he said it's in the anti-depressant category (the drug he
mentioned trying started with a "D"...I remember I thought it sounded like
the name for a couple seizure meds I know of??). Does the serotonin tie in
with the neuron firing he mentioned??? He's hoping that between increasing
the dosage of the Trazodone that Devon has already been taking for his
disordered sleep and the 60mg Straterra in the morning that it will do the
trick for Devon's anxiety during the day. When he told us that I said
something like, "so increasing his Trazodone at night will help with the
anxiety issues during the day?" and that's when he said the thing about the
serotonin and neuron firing thing. I just wish I had had presence of mind to
ask Joe to take Devon outside so I could gather my wits about me and ask
these questions :o( I needed something for anxiety at that moment!!!! There
were plenty of other people there and no one else had a kid who was so loud
and upset...it made me want to crawl in a hole somewhere :o( No comments
necessary...I know we could have it MUCH worse...I'm just feeling sorry for
myself momentarily :o)

OK...now I have another question :o) Like I said Devon has been taking the
50mg Trazodone since we cried "UNCLE!" when he was 7 yrs old (we'd been
sleep deprived since he was born). We started him on his increased dosage of
100mg Friday night. It's been a long time and I don't remember anymore...but
does the increased dose kick in from the first time he takes it or does it
need time to build up the level before we start seeing a difference (IF
there is one). And even if it doesn't have the desired effect for the
anxiety problems during the day it should boost the positive effect it has
already had with his disordered sleep...I should think so anyway???
