[tri-med] Whats been happening with the list

I apologise for the problems with the list but please let me reassure you
that they are temporary and transient.

Essentially what happened is that the weekend before last Freelists moved to
a new server. That was when we first started up and it caused some
disruptions for a few hours. Patience, I do understand those issues of
moving believe me!!!

Everything was fine until Sunday evening when Freelists new ISP's ISP went
belly up and never bothered to let anyone know in advance. I will forward
the more complicated and technical explanation at the end of this mail.

What that meant is that Freelists was off-line while they firstly found out
that this is what had happened - that took some doing apparently. Then they
had to move everything back to their old server. Being non-planned it took
longer than previously and they had to wait for the DSN numbers to be
rechanged etc.

All of that obviously caused some headaches but everything is back and
operational again and the only problem that I can see is that mail returns
are a little slower but they are certainly liveable.

John from Freelists has taken the time out to reassure me that these
problems are not "normal" and once they sort out the situation with servers
things should be fine again. He is concerned about what to do as this is the
second major ISDN company in the US to go under recently.......

With regards to Gina's mails - please be patient. Its school holidays here
so I don't get as much puter time. As a result I haven't been able to spend
a lot of time teaching Gina who is new to the net about list protocols and
how things happen. There are also a couple of other "new" folk on the list
in the same situation. I know all of you remember being new :-)) and I have
spent time with a lot of you teaching you the "ropes" so would anyone like
to help Gina and the other new people for me??

Do not only point the way, but lead the way.
