just tell him to take it slowly I remember when I had my braces and all I
wanted was an apple whole NOT cut up and it hurt the first time I tried my
teeth felt a bit 'loose' it takes a while for them to feel less like that
and more normal.  I remember too when I first had my braces put on and I
tried to chew a stick of gum ....ohhh the pain!!!
