To find a pediatrician in your area that will work with you ...
... my suggestion is to call the Neonatal ICU (NICU)at the hospital you
will deliver at. Ask to speak to the charge nurse and let her know that
you are looking for her personal opinion based on her professional
experience. Ask her if she knows a doctor who has been especially
helpful with children having rare issues on her floor. Ask about any
doctors with particular good bed side manners ... you could interview
her and thank her for her time. Once you have a name, you can look up
the phone number to the office and speak to someone to get more info to
set up an informational interview to meet the doctor. Or, even the
charge nurse (or even a floor nurse in the NICU) may have that phone
telephone number too, or if they know which office they work out of ...

When I call hospitals for other people, I simply use the phone tree to
work my way around to get someone. In the US, I call the NICU, Chaplain
office and social work offices in the hospital to help me find info on
docs in that hospital. Their reputations are typically known and people
don't feel threatened to help a person looking for advice :)

When you speak to the doctor, ask them what other doctors they may have
worked with closely in the past and who they might refer for specific
specialties for your situation. This DOES work!

Good luck,

Janina Arritola
