Hi Kim,
A dynavox is a communication device. The one we had on loan for my son was
about the size of a laptop but much heavier - something your more likely to
leave in one place or on your childs wheelchair tray maybe. But there are lots
of other sizes to be had and some can be clipped onto a belt but I am not sure
how much info these can hold. The one we tried for my son was amazing. It had a
touch screen with software that enabled you to very easily build up images and
files, for example - we had one picture of tv and dvd player and when he
touched this it brought up pictures of his favorite tv programs or dvds and he
could touch the picture of Thomas the tank to tell us that is what he wanted to
watch. Or we put a picture of a family and if he pressed that a set of photos
that we downloaded into it of me, daddy, his sister, granny, grandad ect would
apear and he could touch which one he was telling us about.
It is a very clever piece of equipment and I am sure a lot more can be done
with it but I would have needed more playing time with it.
I think the speech therapist mentioned prices in the UK vary on the complexity
of the device but the one we trialed was around 8000 pounds.

What exactly is the Dynovox? Is it portable? Is it a communication device?
Can you load software into it? Is it like a laptop? Thanks.
