Karen,
If you've got the energy fight for it! I buried my head
in the sand for far too long, and too often too on the
respite issue. But like Nan says, those respite weekends
have real benefits for both parent and child. A fight now,
when you're this close, got right on your side, and a lot of
official strength behind you, could just avoid total burn out
later. And Nan's right about that too...it will just be harder
later to find the energy to fight this battle when your burnt
out.
Princess Phil just completed her first year back in the
respite camp system. (I'd yanked her out of it when she
needed the aortic valve transplant, and it's aftermath.)
And we had to start back at square one getting her accepted
and reestablished. Don't plan on ever letting that happen
again.

Yes, we DID do that once with the girls. Of course even then Nan
had to leave for about 20 minutes after we'd ordered to go pick up
Dom from work, and drop off him & food to Chris.
