Smith's is the genetic "bible" - I have the 5th edition but I understand we
are now up to the 6th edition.
Its Smith's Recognizable Patterns of Human Malformation. Smith himself is
now dead (he died in in 1981) but the book continues to be revised
regularly. It lists all recognizable syndromes, including many of the rarer
trisomies.
Smith's is usually what doctors photocopy and give to parents when they
first discover the trisomy. Which is NOT good. Smith's is a medical text and
lists all 150 odd problems associated with the trisomy and their rate of
occurence. But for someone in shock it makes it sound like every baby has
every possible problem.
Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.
