When Arwen was a baby, we didn't get her vaccinations right away. I bought
a book that tells how vaccinations are made and side effects, etc. It was
very informative. It gave me a lot of questions to ask our ped. We were
fortunate that he was pretty open and didn't "make" us get her vacc. We
decided to later, simply because whooping cough was going around in our
state, and Arwen didn't have any warning signs (allergies, etc.) that would
make us think she may have trouble. We got Elanor's right on time and
didn't have any problems. I think that vaccinations are overall a good
thing, I mean, smallpox is nonexistent in the US, and kids rarely die of
measles or mumps anymore. I just think the government and medical community
tend to be too militant in the issue. Chicken pox, for example. Really, do
you know anyone who has died from chicken pox? Flu shots--everybody I know
who gets the flu shot (except Elanor-go figure) gets the flu. As with
anything, inform yourself before you make a decision. I know some people
who think the government is injecting you with location devices, but that's
a whole other story...;)
I'm stepping down from the soapbox now. Next...
Jennifer, mom to Arwen, 7; Elanor (t18), 5; caregiver to Joe (cerebral palsy
& spastic displaysia), 26 & Eric (cerebral palsy & seizure disorder), 19;
and wife to Andrew; Boise, Idaho
