[tri-med] Re: Swings

Kaiya's speech therapist has decided to introduce swinging during her
sessions b/c Kaiya loves it so much. It's a little difficult when we are
working on
feeding...but she does seem to respond better to chunks while she's swinging.
I seriously don't know what I'm going to do if she decides she only likes to
eat while she's swinging...

Thats the beauty of these as therapy equipment - you can use them in so many
ways. Michael obviously likes support and stability - he gets that on the
platform swing because he is usually prone or supine, but he still gets the
vestibular input (eyes and ears). It swings forwards and backwards or
sideways. It stabilises his trunk as well for reach etc and often kids can
do more whilst they are moving as opposed to being static (eg it seems to be
less work to hold your head up when you are moving on a swing than if you
are laying on the floor). And best of all its not work because its play and
fun for everyone.

The exception being scooter boards for me - I had a classroom of kids who
loved to be pulled on scooter boards and I was the one that ended up with
tennis elbow from it :-)))

Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.
