[tri-med] Re: Swallowing

Hi carolyn,
My 3 year old has always seemed to have somekind of thing with her swallowing
too.
She hasn't stop eating anything, she is so picky, thank the Lord!!
but she had her tonsils and adenoids removed and ever since then she has gotten
better with her eating and she also started eating some new foods, different
textures, also
i have noticed that sometimes shewill do that thing where she will squeeze her
eyes when she swallows , like the food is to big to go down or something.
Also she doesn't like very cold food either and I have always wondered if she
had a sensitive throat or something. I have not gotten medical advice on this
but I hope it helps

I've just got round to reading all the posts on this topic!

It all made interesting reading for me because Ellie has very recently
stopped swallowing finger foods (banana, crisps, etc) and also refuses to
eat textured food like spaghetti in tomato sauce, which she used to eat
reasonably well. With the finger foods she'll put them in her mouth, chew
them and then spit them out. I watched her eating a banana not long before
she started this recent behaviour and while she swallowed it, she did
squeeze her eyes shut as she was doing it. I don't know if this is a
physical or psychological thing.

She's due to have an operation on 1st December to drain the fluid from her
middle ear (diagnosed with glue ear recently) so I'm asking the ENT doc if
he can make sure that her tonsils and adenoids are checked over at the same
time to see if there's any obstruction causing her poor swallowing. I just
wondered if anyone has anything they'd like to throw in here before I send
off my request to him. And I didn't even know swallow studies existed til
I read about them here so I will be asking for her to have one asap.
