Michelle: I'm really glad to hear that you feel mostly satisified. I can't
imagine making decisions for a child who is in the "grey" zone. It is much
easier when your child is better fitted for one or the other.
We recently had Emily's IEP. Last year it was very hard for me because she
went from the PPI class of 1/2 days to Primary 1 in a elementary building 5
days a week full-time. That was a tuff transition for me. Emily did fine
with it. I just had to get use to all the new people and the idea of school
having her more than me. It's always in the back of my head about not
knowing how much longer she will live and when school gets more hours than me
a day, I question if it's really worth it. I considered keeping her out of
school 2 days a week, but my husband reminded me how much Emily loves school
and that I would be selfish for doing that.
Now the school year has nearly come to an end. IT was pretty successful and
she remained in school 5 days a week. I got over it! She really is happy at
school. When we IEP'd her into this new school they wrote in for a
one-on-one parapro due to her frequent tube feedings. Since I knew they
would realize throughout the year that it really wasn't that time
consuming... I figured she would not have the one-on-one for next year. I
was shocked at this IEP when they said she most definately needs it. And it
has nothing to do with the tube feeding. She is the only student in her
class with this level of support. She is in a center-based program for TMI.
I'm still swallowing this, but I guess it's best at least for now.
Anyway, glad to hear you have setteled with all your IEP things. General Ed
sounds wonderful! I hope you can stop worrying at least through the summer.
