Sorry, I can't remember who originally posted the question about slippery elm,
but this information is taken from a book I'm borrowing from a friend, "Kids,
Herbs, Health" by White & Mavor. Sunny Mavor is a professional member of the
American Herbalists Guild. She is the founder of Herbs for Kids. Maybe, you
can find her information on the web. Anyway, page 41 shows:
Slippery Elm
Lintin binomial: Ulmus fulva
Parts used: inner bark
Main actions: demulcent, astringent
Typical uses: internally for sore throats, coughs, urinary tract irritation,
diarrhea;
externally for inflamed skin, wounds, burns
Preparations: Tea, powdered bark, extracts, tablets; externally as a poultice
Contraindications: none known
Of interest: wild sources of slippery elm bard are dwindling; purchase
products made from cultivated trees only
Kids' takes rating: Yuck!
