Thankyou to everyone who responded to my question about something that would
simulate a hearing loss. believe it or not there is a machine out there that
will simulate a hearing loss. Its called a Helos machine. Its not quite as
portable as I would like, and it does require some training to use it, but it
does exist.
I have spoken with the guy who invented it, and he is currently working with a
guy in The Netherlands to produce a version that will go into your home
computer, they will then put it on a chip which can be put into a CD player. In
the meantime he has put me in touch with a lady here in Sydney who works at
Renwick College. She has three of these machines!!! If I get a group of folk
together they will put together a presentation weekend for us or even an
evening workshop with the machine :-)) Once we do that we can "actively
encourage" teachers and others to also attend and find out what life is like
for our kids. (Because if they don't its discrimination).
There are a few of these Helos machines in the US as well - the downfall that
they have discovered however is that when non hearing impaired people use the
machine they find hearing (as our kids hear) too hard and tend to think that
they should give up and not speak to our kids at all - hence why they do it as
a workshop.
Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.
