[tri-med] Re: Receding gums

Hi Michelle

(He's also been known as a night time grinder. Used to occasionally wake me
from a sound sleep his grinding was so loud. Doesn't seem to do that much
anymore.)

Ellie's teeth-grinding is fairly frequent too! Wonder if that would
contribute to her receded gums?

(Did the dentist indicate if this is something new with Ellie and why he/she

thinks it's occurring?
Or offer any advise on treatment (if there is any)?)

This was brought up some months back by the dental hygienist and we were
scheduled to meet this specialist dentist mentioned in my original email.
She asked a whole lot of questions to gain a picture of Ellie's medical
history. Of course, they don't have any information to hand on Trisomy 18
as far as gum problems go hence my asking the list. There isn't any
treatment as such just a case of making regular appointments to keep a close
eye on the gums. The dentist did suggest that perhaps heavy-ish pressure
applied when brushing may have contributed to the state of her gums - I'm
not aware I brush her teeth too roughly however I have bought an electric
toothbrush and that should ensure her teeth are being cleaned in the correct
way. We were also given some toothpaste called GC Tooth Mousse which is
described as a "topical crème with bio-available calcium and phosphate". We
were told it would decrease the sensitivity of Ellie's teeth and also aid
the dryness associated with mouth breathers.

Thanks for your interest.

Alex has ALWAYS had an issue with spongy, easy to cause bleed, slightly
swollen gums.
Haven't heard about significantly receded though, just a little with him.
