[tri-med] Re: Rebecca's speech assessment

Susan:

They are changing Soleah's schools because for the past four years, she has
been attending a school in our district but not her "home" campus. The home
campus did not have a Life Skills program because there was not a need but now
they have 5 or 6 kids so they will make one. I did not have a problem with the
school-she went there (as did my other girls for elementary) for her pre-k (age
3-6) but they are taking the pre-school teachers who ran the class like a
nursery school not like a classroom. I'm sure it's possible for them to "step
up" but Soleah is doing well at the other campus (teacher is outstanding!) and
she doesn't do well with change. Also, the nurse at the old school was the one
who constantly called EMS when Soleah fell asleep . . . . Old Timers on the
list will remember horror stories. I actually ran in the door as they were
about to use paddles on Soleah to "get her heart going" once and had to scream
accross the room for them to stop. Her pulse is hard t
 o take
but she had a pulse and a pacemaker working perfectly and she was just sounds
asleep . . . I told them to always call me first and NEVER called EMS unless
she was blue or bleeding--I am always close by. The other school is only five
miles away so it is not a big money issue either. Plus I had the nurse
perfectly trained (she is much better!) She has two years left in elementary
(YIKES!) - why can't they just leave well-enough alone???? The current teacher
has acknowledged it will be a difficult transition. I have requested a meeting
with the new school, staff, etc. and also requested an assistive tech review
thanks to you!

produces perserverance; and perserverance, character; and character, hope.
