[tri-med] Re: Rachel's progress

It's summer, and here I am with my yearly talk about lutein! When we
started giving Elanor lutein last summer, her sensitivity to light
reduced considerably. I ran out for a while (bad mommy), and we're
starting again. You can find it in health food stores. We start with
6mg, and have gotten up to 20mg gradually. Basically, lutein is found
in green and yellow veggies and forms a filter in our eyes. Most of our
kids don't get leafy greens and lack that filter. Most lutein capsules
are made from greens, berries and marigolds. I think Jude uses
"Barlean's Greens" (is that right?), and adds other nutrients as well as
lutein. It will never replace a good hat and pair of sunglasses, but it
really helps!

Keren was like this last summer (about Rachel's age then). She would
sweat as soon as there was a touch of humidity (still does--she takes
after her dad :) ), and she didn't deal with sunlight well at all. We
got her sunglasses which helped a lot for her eyes, but she still
didn't enjoy being outside. This year she seems much less sensitive,
and she enjoys being outside. Hopefully with Rachel it will be just an
age-related thing, too!

Hope you find some answers to the food/weight issue...
