[tri-med] RSV vaccine and MMR shots

FYI:
What should I avoid while taking RSV IG?
Vaccinations that use live strains of the virus (e.g., measles, mumps, and
rubella or MMR) given during and for approximately ten months following
treatment with RSV IG may not produce the desired response. Additional
doses of the vaccine may be necessary to ensure
effectiveness. http://my.webmd.com/hw/drug_data/d03881a1
I found this information back when Claire was getting her RSV... I wanted
to learn more about it, and more importantly, what to watch out for, side
effects, that sort of thing.

... we just got back from the ped office... he said Claire was due for her
MMR and chickenpox (they get that at one year of age), and I questioned
it... after some research, he decided we should wait until fall, since she
just had her RSV shot recently.

The dr who administered the shot (not our ped) didn't know about this "9
month wait after RSV to get the MMR shot' either.

My simple understanding is that RSV isn't actually a vaccine it falls under
another category altogether and from what I gather it 'cancels out' the MMR
shots that follow, since it *fights* the bad stuff. (That is tech talk for
ya :o).

I hope you get the idea anyway, even if I didn't explain it correctly.

If any babies have had RSV this past winter... be sure to call ahead of
your one-year appt and have the dr get the 'scoop' on this if it hasn't
been 9 months since the RSV shot. If you don't call ahead, you will be
waiting for a good while as your dr looks all this up (if he believes
you)... info is not readily available... or you can copy the (entire)
article cited above...

My 2 cents from my morning experience.

PS - I also believe there are two different meds that can be used to treat
RSV. This refers to one of the two... so you may want to find out which
one your baby had.
