Hi:
I thought I would share a little about my breasfeeding and expressing when
Pamela was born. I was totally planning and was trying to breastfeed Pamela
when she was born. After we were sent out to Children's Hospital they were
great and continuing to encourage me and also to pump so as to accumulate a
supply. Well when the diagnosis came that Pamela wasn't suppose to live very
long 2 weeks tops, a wonderful nurse kept encouraging me to pump and it was
during one of these solitary moments in the pumping room that I finally felt a
bit more in control because I felt that I was able to do something for her
which was giving her the best food possible. Well I continued pumping breast
milk for up to 13 months at which time I was planning on a trip and needed to
wean myself off the pump. Needless to say I had much more milk than Pamela
could ever consume and so I donated the extra to the Childrens Hospitals Breast
Milk Bank and again I felt great about be able to help in that way also. I
really feel that this also contributed to Pamela's overall health, she was
quite a porker back then.
I also believe a really good pump is totally necessary. I had one on loan like
the ones they have at the hospital. It's electric.
