Katy,

Mari was never able to breast feed, but she got only breast milk for four
months. (I rented an "industrial" :0) pump from the hospital). We
supplemented it with a product called 'human milk fortifier' to add
calories. She gained an ounce a month. I started her gradually on formula
at month 5 and continued through month 7. Pumping took a lot of time, but
it was worth it for her immune system. Looking back, I would have bought
the pump....because we invested more money (about $100 US) in it through
renting than it was worth. A friend through church paid for the rental
every month.
