[tri-med] Re: Question

I am still pumping exclusively for Caroline at 8 months old. I am a huge
breastfeeding advocate and I breastfed my toddler until she weaned herself
at about 16 months.

Caroline was hospitalized for her first two weeks as they thought she
would need heart surgery at any moment. So, they didn't want anything in
her stomach, I wasn't allowed to nurse her and she was on IV's only. Before
she came home, they began giving her expressed milk and I hoped to
eventually get her to latch on. A week later, she was vomiting like crazy
and was diagnosed with severe reflux due to a huge hiatal hernia. We added
cereal to the milk, started on meds, watched her intake/outtake like a hawk
etc. etc. etc. We ended up with an ng tube, then an nj tube and now a
g-tube. She never had trouble with sucking/swallowing or aspirating, just
vomiting and then refusing to eat. Looking back, I would have tried much
harder to get her to latch on. I really miss the bonding and I HATED bottle
feeding.

I can't believe I am still pumping, but I have filled freezers at my
house, my MIL and my moms. I probably can cut back soon and eventually quit
and she will be OK until she is ready for other formulas/foods.
