[tri-med] Re: Prenatal Ultrasound Question from New Subscriber

>>>>>>>>>..One disadvantage you might hear is that some may treat
the infant different (ie lifesaving procedures,
surgies, ect) with a predelivery diagnosis. This can
somewhat be avoided by talking with your family and
doctor and discussing your wishes exactly before the
big day. One advantage is that if through the next
few months something is found to be wrong, you would
know in advance, know what you want to do, and the
medical personal could be prepared to deal with it>>>>>>>>>>>

unfortunately this is a consideration also, its to bad that when there
is a known issue the delivery is often treated differently, for some
this is good, all the recourses are there, for others the medical
community makes it very hard and pressures the parents to do nothing in
the way of resuscitation. My daughter Rebecca who has trisomy 18
moasaic and will be 12 in june was an unknown, meaning we did not know
of her trisomy. She was treated as a normal baby when she was born. We
did not know of her trisomy DX until she was one week old. She did not
require life saving measures when she was born although she was
compromised. In some centers they want to with hold life saving measures
with trisomy babies so it can be a battle. As many on the list will tell
you their kids have thrived, not meeting the normal milestones but
thrived.
