Nan:
I watch Soleah's weight as I am always afraid of complicating problems with
extra weight. I still help her in and out of tub, bath her, change her etc. so
I am worried about having to move her around. Her leg length is good--it only
looked of because her hip was being pulled up. I could see her toe nails
getting difficult as they grow funny--kind of straight them outward. So I keep
them short and it take two of us to cut them.

When Dom had his rods placed, they also took some of the growth plate in his
left leg to slow it down so it would not be so much longer than the right leg.
It seemed to work well for years and even though he had lifts to put in his
shoes, with all the group home moves, he lost them. I had noticed he was
listing more and more to the right the last year or so and figured when we got
to
the first adult orthopedist appointment (this coming Monday), we would get new
lifts or something. But I also have been taking him to a podiatrist to cut his
funky toenails, (because he won't do it and won't let me touch them). At the
beginning of the year we talked to the doc about maybe getting a lift for his
right shoe. The guy took impressions and the next thing we knew, he had a short
splint to help support Dom's ankle with a built in lift. He had club foot
surgery when he was about six months old and I guess the whole thing had
started
to turn over a bit. Dom has gained about 35 pounds in the last four years and
that is starting to have an effect on his feet. Anyway, the doc put the
splint/lift on him and Dom got his shoes on and walked out of the office tall
and
straight. I almost cried. I just had not realized how much he was leaning off
to
Joneses. When I got to church on Sunday, I almost did not recognize him from
the back becasue he was sitting so straight. The other big news is we had a
sleep study done on him and sure enough, he was having sleep apneas and he is
now on CPAP. I would not have known to even mention this to his doc if it had
not been for everyone sharing information on this list. Now I am hoping that
his
complaints of aches and pains and headaches might be resolved. He is very
proud of being almost as tall as me. LOL
Nan-mom to Dom, 24, tri 18 mosaic and bipolar; and Ali, 25, autism, TS, ADHD
