Fawna,
I've been reading your thinking on the chylothorax
issue for a few days now. I'll tell you what I know
about it, as Morgan had chylothorax when he was a
nearly newborn, after esophagus surgery. He never ran
a fever from it, but he suffered breathing episodes,
apneas and bradycardias. The thinking on those
episodes for him was that it was a central nervous
system problem and that he would not get better. He
was scheduled for an upper gi (it had been scheduled
before these other problems manifested themselves) and
the radiologist decided to do a chest xray first.
They discover Morgan's chest cavity was full of fluid.
They drained it off and lab results clued the drs in
to the chylothorax. I never knew what any of the
blood test results really said, but the drs. knew by
the contents of the fluid that it was a chylothorax.
So, the only thing that clued them to it was the
breathing problems. I hope you can get this cleared
up. If it is a chylothorax there are several options
for treatment, if not, I wish they would figure out
what is going on. Poor Philina, poor Mom!!!
