Holly, >That is weird, Fawna. A fasting blood sugar below 100 is normal, >102-125 is borderline/need to recheck and anything over 125 is an >automatic dx of diabetes. But, an a1c of 5.5 is completely normal. >Do you check her blood sugar often? Having that high of fasting >number with that kind of a1c would make me think she is going low >frequently. Do you think she is? I haven't a clue! And as I said to Cindy, we never test her blood sugar at home, just the official lab work every 3 months. What started this whole dx thing was an elevated fasting blood sugar 6 months ago at her physical. I don't actually know how high it was then, but the 3 month average retest came in at 6.0 then. 3 months of sugar restricted diet later her numbers were down to 5.9 & 123. But now 3 more months of the diet and it's down to 5.5, but back up to 150. >There is also something known as the "dawn phenomenon." Basically, >a rise in blood sugar in the early morning hours due to hormonal >fluctuations. Well now, this might have some merit!
