Hip, hip, hooray! Annette got her Passy Muir valve today. It has been five
months since I have heard a sound from that girl. Our OT told me to put the
pmv on for only 60 seconds at first. I surely didn't know what she was talking
about. I put the thing on that girl, held the oxygen tubing to the pmv, and
waited for her to make a noise. Then, she sneezed. I guess because it didn't
come out of her trach, it hurt coming out through the mouth and nose because
she started to cry. Then she heard herself and stopped. I was tempted to
pinch her just to hear her cry. LOL I left the pmv on for about 30-40 minutes.
She did fine. No desats. I thought, "That OT does not know my nena." Well,
when the nurse came over, she did not believe that Annette stayed on that long.
So, I proved it to her. I am sooooo happy I can hear my child again. I can't
wait for the trach to come off. Five months and no pneumonia. Yea!
Annette, wife to Jesse (20 years), mom to Michael (18), Amadeus (almost 7), and
Annette (17 months and still counting) t18.
