Its funny that you wrote this - as just after I read it the phone rang. It
was a call related to some of the advocating that I am doing at present
about disability services. The call was pleasant enough but stressful.

While I was talking I got a bad news email........

Then someone came to the door. I knew who it was and that it certainly
wasn't someone telling me that I had won the lottery - and the panic set in.
For me its not so much palpitations and such because I can rationalise that,
but its an overwhelming fear. The breathing and heart symptoms only set in
if I try and overcome the fear.

Its all totally irrational and I think thats what amazes people - you get a
reputation for being strong and sensible then they find out you have panic
attacks. It doesn't "compute" - and thats the thing - it doesn't compute for
us either!!!

I so wanted to slam the door shut and pretend I wasn't home (and believe me
I have done that) - but I was a good girl, made him wait whilst I finished
on the phone, dealt with him and THEN burst into tears and had my panic
attack.........
