reading about the panic attacks of others makes me thankful i have only had
a few big ones. they can be debillitating. i twice had to go to emergency
as i thought i was doomed. my mum died of a massive heart attack at 43 (im
almost 39) and my grandfather died of heart disease at 47 or so. combine
family history with the stress of losing a child and it is easy to
understand (in hindsight, when we are easier on ourselves) why i was upset,
but i still felt foolish for not knowing better than to realize what was
going on.
i take cloneazepam(sp) when needed but don't always know when to take it.
the irony is i take psych, social work, etc and it is a big part of my
program to understand and help people with these issues. i should know
better than to blame myself, but that still does not stop me. i read one
theory which appealed to me- that people who are prone to anxiety are more
sensitive to bodily functions like increased heart rate, respiration and
other symptoms of panic. if you understand the process, you can eventually
ease it a bit, as joycelyn said. depression is another big one- once i get
going on that topic-look out. i am very open about my "psych issues"
because i think secrecy can be a killer- literally.
hats off to everyone who has a surviving trisomy child-i can't imagine how
much harder it is to live with the fear of the unknown ever day. caregivers
face terrific stress as part of their daily lives. tyler changed my career
path for sure-now i know a bit of how it feels and hope to become involved
with advocacy, maybe even on a professional level.
whoa- im done now. just an issue that i am passionate about.
