Samantha, Welcome to the list! Our daughter was diagnosed in utero via level II ultrasound with Trisomy 18 due to her clenched fists, strawberry shaped head, iugr, VSD, choroid plexus cysts, excess amniotic fluid, and advanced maternal age (I was 39 when I became pregnant with her). Even with all these 'markers,' the neonatalogist said he was only 30% sure she had Trisomy 18. Our amnio & FISH study did confirm hers. Mari just turned 5 last week. She still has a very large VSD an smaller ASD, a PDA and pulmonary hypertension. Her heart conditions seem to balance themselves out tho. They do cause us extreme concern whenever she becomes ill. Her first three years, she was frequently ill. Only a few hospitalizations tho. Like others have said, each child is different in spite of their similar diagnosis......and the docs sure don't know EVERYTHING when it comes to the conditions our kids do have. I wish you all the best and please don't hesistate to ask whatever. We all know how difficult it is to sort through the information let along deal with the reeling emotions of this time.
