One of our Aussie mums (no internet access) who has a little girl with T-18
(full) recently had an ultrasound which showed amongst other things healing rib
fractures and osteopenia.
She was understandably upset thinking that she had caused the rib fractures (or
more likely her newest baby who was constantly falling on on her daughter when
he was learning to walk) and would be notified for child abuse. I have
reassured her that its "par for the course" although her daughter is quite
young for the fractures to be starting (she is 3).
She is off to see the endocrinologist and I said that I would ask if others
would share their experiences - age of onset (or diagnosis), types of fractures
and treatments so that she could take them along with her. This little one has
few medical problems - a heart condition that is not needing active treatment
at this point, obstructive apneas being treated with C-PAP - and thats about it
for active medical issues. She is G-tube fed, says "mum", is standing and
starting to take a few steps in a walker, and absolutely gorgeous of course
:-)) (but then again I am a bisaed defacto aunty)
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.
