[tri-med] Nicholas is in ICU

Well, Nicholas decided he didn't want to go to New York. The day before we
were to leave for the conference, Nicholas started throwing up bile. So we
took him to the emergency room and the next day he had surgery. He had a
complete bowel obstruction. The surgeon had to cut into his bowel because it
was kinked and relieve the pressure before he could place it back where it
belonged. Then he found a huge abdominal hernia (we've been down this road
before!). That boy just won't stay together. He's been in ICU since Sunday.
He's on a ventilator and now they are suspecting pneumonia. He got a temp on
Wed. and they took cultures of his urine, blood, and lung and the only one that
came back positive was the lung. He's already on 3 antibiotics, so they will
see which bacteria it is before giving him another one. They're giving him
breathing treatments and had to hydrate him. One thing leads to another. As
of right now, they are easing up on the sedation and he is starting to open his
eyes. Hopefully, by Sat. or Sun. he will be transferred to the intermediate
floor. They are trying to wean him off the ventilator today.
I'm getting updates from the Cook Family on how the conference is going.
We're just glad Nick didn't get sick on the way to the conference.
