Hi Jayne :o)
Devon has had umbilical hernias since birth....still has them as a matter of
fact...at least that's what someone told me years ago when I asked what the
little soft knots were/are right above his belly button. He has had 2
inguenal hernias...one on each side of his lower abdomen...he now has
perfectly healed twin bikini cut scars that you can barely see. The first
one occurred when they brought his testicle down during the Free Petey
chapter...the surgeon says that inguenal hernias happen 90 % of the time
during this procedure and so they repair it as they go. The second one
happened the next year and half and it was about the size of a plum...never
bothered Devon...but bugged the heck out of me because everytime I pulled
his pants down this big "plum" stuck out on his lower abdomen...I could
massage it back in but it would pop right back out. We were told that it's
rare that these hernias strangulate but as far as we're concerned EVERYTHING
is rare about Devon so lets not tempt fate!!! Both of the inguenal hernias
that were repaired healed without incident. I have wondered too if perhaps
inguenal hernias are maybe a T13 thing...but it's hard to say with our
family because I know for certain that my dad had hernias...and also my mom
and my brother. Incidentally...I may have one now too???? Last week when I
was coughing spasmotically and couldn't stop...my back and my abdomen
strained so hard that one time when I didn't hold my tummy when I was
coughing...I swear I felt something tear in my abdomen not too far below my
belly button. There was no pain...but there was a definite tearing sensation
if that makes any sense????
