May,
Annette has a Benik Vest. You can google Benik and it has a picture of one on
their website. Basically, it's a neoprene vest that gives support. For
Annette, it is more comfortable that the hard TLSO and fits better. Vera's PT
can order one for her or maybe find one to borrow to see if Vera will tolerate
it. There's also the Theratogs. Those have more pieces. So, they are harder
to put on. I think there is another one call SPIO. We have never used this
one but my friend said she liked it better than the Theratogs. Her daughter
doesn't have scoliosis, though. She needs the support for walking straighter.

It does mean the button is too long. But it can't be helped. When she lies
down, and her stomach is flat, it sticks out. But when she sits up and the
tummy fat pushes out, it sits well on the skin.
According to an experienced nurse at our hospital, the granulation is
supposed to subside for many in "a few months". It has subsided almost
completely for Vera after 3 months (yay!) So show them the beautiful button
on my blog (not Vera's but a friend's little girl) and say "see not all
buttons bleed!"
We used something called "Stomadhesive" The hospital nurse calls it 'magic
powder'. It works like antacid, just that it comes in a easy to apply bottle
and is very fine so you don't have to do manual grinding of the antacid
tablets. I found that for the antacid tabs if you don't pound them really
really fine enough, sometimes it can be abrasive on the stoma and cause it
to bleed when the gauze rubs against it.
What is a Benik? Is it a brace? Tell me more, cos Vera just got her first
spine Xray and her curvature is 18 degrees! I was so devastated to see such
an S curve and she's only 16 months...wonder what's in store up ahead if the
scoliosis worsens.
