[tri-med] Re: New Family

Thanks Debbie. My sons reflux was diagnosed after me jumping up and down with
the doctors. They had done a pH study and it showed up negative but I could
hear his reflux comming up his throat and hitting the back of his nose and then
he would gag or cough. He was so much better after they addressed it. I still
think he has a little reflux as we cal them up and downs, you can see him
gulping and his eyes role a little.

Katy. son t8 mosaic.

We've added starches/ carbs (the not-so-South-Beach-Diet), like mashed
potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes - use real butter and salt for flavor
with Soy milk for her digestion problems.... we mix bananas with just about
everything (mash em up good and add a drop or two of lemon juice so they
don't turn brown quickly). She loves the banana flavor.
We also add olive oil (extra light, so the flavor doesn't overtake her food)
to most of her meals as it has added calories and omegas.
We especially add the duocal to her night time feedings as one parent
mentioned to me that the calorie powders fill their child up, so they don't
want to eat as much, so we don't do as much of it during the day... but at
night, you want your child to sleep longer and the powder may hold them
until morning.
As Claire gets thin from any kind of sickness, I tend to wake her for
feedings in the middle of the night. The problem is that it is difficult to
get her back on schedule. But I do think those feedings help, and a mom
will do what a mom has to do! I just prepare the food the night before and
feed her, basically in my sleep. I can't say that Claire is nearly as
'chubby' as I'd like, so I'm open for more suggestions as well.
Is it possible that reflux could sometimes be mistaken for phlegm? Claire
gets cola in the morning when we find that she throws up in the morning and
see the gunk in it, the cola seems to help break it up before her
breakfast. We are also certain to brush her teeth more frequently when
she's on cola - it stains and is full of sugar (more calories there to - but
empty ones).
I'm not sure I've seen reflux, how can you tell? Or do you need a dr to
tell you?
