>>>>>>>>>Neuro Psych Testing:
1. What are the benefits of this testing?
2. What does it show and how does it help your child?
3. Did your school district pay for the testing?<<<<<<,,,
Mark recently had some testing done, I paid for it my self as the school
kept saying that formal testing was not necessary, ( last done in grade
1 and he is entering grade 6 in the fall) in Mark's case it shows on a
percentile scale were Mark is. In Mark's case it shows a wide difference
in some skills, i.e. visual perceptual at the 86% and reading at the 2%
and this helps to show where his learning issues are and how to best
help him succeed, if all the indicators were say at the 2% they would
probably tell me that he is just slow. ( this is what happened to a
friend of mines child) the funny thing now is that I had it done the
school psycomatrist reviewed it and now feels that Mark does qualify for
ISA funding ( extra funding for kids with severe learning disabilities)
which the school would not be able to get with out a current psy
evaluation! While I am happy, it rather makes me want to bang my head
on a brick wall! The other good news where Mark is concerned is that
after my meetings and letter writing and concern about the lack of
computers available to him and the psy report and the OT recommending
use of computers........they are moving Mark's special ed class to a
REAL CLASSROOM instead of the closet size one they are in now!! Back to
the psy testing question. I have never had Rebecca tested because they
would only tell me something that I don't really want to know. I believe
that they would tell me that she functions at under 1 year of age, but I
know and those that have met her know how receptive she is and she
understands so much more then a child of under a year but because she is
non verbal it is so hard to test. The only time there was even any
testing was when they identified her for school funding purposes, and
the doctor very apologetically told me that Rebecca was functioning well
below age level! Like I didn't know that!
