This is a good reminder for the moms with the babies and littlier kids.
Morgan was my first and I had no clue about anything. Although he never
had a problem with weight gain, they kept pushing me to keep his calorie
intake up so that he would keep gaining. And when he started eating orally
I was so happy, yet so stressed because some days he didn't seem to eat
anything and I didn't know why. I would get so upset feeding him and then
he would start to cry and then I would start to cry. I didn't know that it
was "normal" for kids to eat more one day and less another and nobody told
me that was normal. It took me years to take the stress out of Morgan's
feedings. And when I did, he became an all the time good eater. If he
isn't hungry I just don't feed him. You guys need to keep the stress
levels low at feeding because your little ones will pick up on it. I look
back on it now (that hindsight bug) and can't believe how easy Morgan was
and how hard I made it on him and me. We only went to the pediatrician for
the regular checkups and he saw a gastro. dr. every 3 mos., too. His
weight always went up and I have absolutely no explanation or advice to
give on why he gained so well. In his first year he went from 5 lbs. 7 oz.
at birth to just under 20 lbs. at 1 yr. His length increased from 17
inches to 27 inches. So, after this long post I am saying listen to Jude
she is so very right. Ask lots of questions, I asked everybody about foods
to help gain weight and for oral eating. I asked speechies, o.t.s,
pediatrician, gastro. doc, dieticians (plural, I asked every dietician I
came in contact with), other moms, nurses. DO NOT feel guilty about the
feeding stuff and the weight stuff. You are doing the best you can.

The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names.
