Karen,
What about a narrow gauze bandage with some electrical tape over the top you
can get it in really neat colours.  The gauze bandage would stop the tape
sticking to his head I'm pretty sure that's how the rugby players tape their
ears.  Not sure on the latex content of electrical tape though.
