I REALLY need some input here guys...as I write this I'm waffling back and
forth (complete with quivering chin trying to hold back tears)...scared to
death of it and saddened that we feel we need help anyway. It feels like
failure
as a parent...
Dear Penny,
Isn't it hard to make these decisions for our kids. I still cannot bring
myself to 'try' many different 'drugs/potions, etc' that have been recommended.
Just don't want to mess with my kids' personality...just like you said!
BUT, Clonidine has literally been a life saver for our family. Marissa
started with Trazadone.......when she was in her previous foster home. Her
foster
Mom said it wiped her out...all day long. I'm not sure if she even gave it
enough of a chance, but she stopped it right away
. Did I ever tell the story about when I accidentally took 8
Trazadone!!!???? Oh my gosh what a horrible experience that was!!!....
When Marissa came to us, I knew she needed SOMETHING. The Clonidine works
like a dream! I don't think she could take it in the daytime though. She takes
it at night and is usually drunk-type sleepy in about an hour.
She is still hitting, pinching........but her explosive behavior is getting
more manageable. She can tolerate things that used to 'bother' her much
better...and regroup herself easier.
We did just up her dose by an extra 1/2 pill per night. She goes to behavior
therapy and she has recently met ALL her goals!! =)
Now to set new ones!
...gotta run...sorry so short!
Hope this helps a little.
