Just keep in mind, even IF Hannah "falls behind" and concerns are expressed
by her teacher and/or yourselves she CAN be tested for WITHOUT the trisomy
dx.
"They" would prob look at a learning disability of some sort first. You can
let them do that and if you see that Hannah's needs are being met with an
IEP following test results (if she qualifies for services) you can leave it
at that.
Alex has had different testing done and basically the school said he has a
learning disability.
In all our time of dealing with the school (he's a freshman now) there's
only been ONE person who kept saying "There's something missing here". It
was hard not to tell the poor woman because we knew that she knew something
was up. Yet the rest of the group of 8 professionals were oblivious. One
even kept saying "the dr signed off". Of course, the dr sent US his letter
and we took out what we didn't want in there----just the t-14 references.
We had a very small child with developmental delays including speech. But if
they were willing to take Alex at face value, look at his needs, test him
based on what was observed and take action with those tests.......they
didn't need the trisomy dx. So far it's working for us. Yet I'm aware that
we may hit a situation yet that requires spilling the crock of beans I've
had sitting here for a while. :0)
Guess I'm saying, don't immediately feel that if _________ happens then I
have to _________. You can take your time every step of the way and think
about what Hannah's needs are. And you'll find the right path for her.
Each of our triers are individuals and we all treat them as such. What is
"right" for one is not always right for another.
You're doing the right thing by your daughter so just keep on keepin' on!
