For the record, I don't think it's a goofy question at all!

 >Candace's speech therapist would like me to get her a music player/boom
box kind of thing. I want it to be portable and light enough that Candace
can carry it. I want it to be simple to operate but yet have a large
variety of songs. Some of her favorites are "Old MacDonald", "Twinkle
Twinkle", "Pat-A-Cake", and "If You're Happy". I have seen some MP3's for
kids, but I don't see that as something Candace could handle. I remember
when Cameron was younger there used to be something out there that was just
a little cassette player with lots of cassettes with lots of songs, plus a
 >microphone. Don't remember who made it.

I think the one you are talking about was one that Alex had: a Fisher Price
player (red and white plastic) that they could also use the microphone to
sing along with OR put in a blank tape and make their own recording.

It doesn't look like they make that one anymore. Most of the 'kid friendly'
music players appear to come preloaded with music or take only the
specifically made music loaded inserts for the machine.

There are some CD players out there (cassette players are much harder to
come by these days) that are for the younger set with fewer buttons, tougher
materials.
Here's one I found that looks similar to the old Fisher Price cassette

      . DC Input Jack
      . Headphone jack
. Plus a mail in coupon for a FREE "Toddler Twosome" 2-CD Set from the
award winning and platinum series of the best in children's music with over

      CD player is 9-1/2" high x 9-5/8" wide x 4-1/8" deep. Operates on 6

With someone as young as Candace I'd think that a MP3 player (which you need
the ear buds/head phone to listen too unless your willing to only use it
setting in a player) might not be good for her ears (esp with volume
control) and she might have trouble keeping them in. However, there does
seem to be some kid friendly ones that have set volume control so that they
can't damage their ears as easily.
