Keren's teeth touch in some places, but her jaw is still a little
recessed. It would be much worse if she hadn't had a jaw displacement
when she was five months old. At that point on her little body, they
had to do an 8 mm distraction! Fortunately for a baby that age the
bone just grew into the distracted place--pretty amazing.
The dentist and orthods who have seen her are ones at our Children's
Hospital in Detroit and do a lot of work with special needs kids. We
do an annual cranio-facial clinic where we see them, and the word so
far is, "Wait and watch" (not much more we can do at this point!).
However, they've also said that when she gets older we'll be able to
pull teeth, move, etc., so they seem to have a pro-active view which
is fine by me. I can't remember who, but I vaguely (everything seems
to be vague these days! :) ) remember someone saying that as Keren
gets older, just the aesthetics of a nice-looking set of teeth will
make a big difference for her overall appearance. Does that make
sense? I think it does to me! Of course, the logistics of it all will
make a difference! Keren has a high pain tolerance, but I'd hate to
put her through unnecessary aggravation...and if she decides her
favorite self-stim is picking at her gums till her teeth are loose,
what then!?
Well, I think I'll take the wait-and-see approach at the moment :) !

things daily...and teaching us even more (9/27/02), Clarissa Joanne,
our almost 3-year-old Tigger who amazes me and drives me crazy
(7/17/05) ), and Evelyn Ruth who's full of cheeky grins... (4/26/07)
