I love blueberries but the idea behind spinach is the lutein it contains. It
reduces the sensitivity of the eyes to light. Alex's opthamologist explained
it in simple terms by saying that it cleared the fluid in the eye and so
reduced the refractive error (glare) of light as it passed through the eye.
Blueberries on the other hand contain anthocyanins, an antioxidant, and also
something that increases the light receptive properties of the eye - sort of
contraindicated in the case of kids who are light sensitive. Its definitely
something I would consider for myself though as I have age related eye
problems (why am I getting older - I don't feel older) and as a result have
started to have difficulty reading fine print (eg street directories in the
car at night) unless the light is good. Thank goodness for clip on halogen
book lights :-))
